Place the flour and salt into a large bowl, stir in the sugar and the yeast, then rub in the butter. Add enough water to form a soft, slightly sticky dough.

    For this step you'll need:

    • 500g Strong white bread flour
    • 1½tsp Salt
    • 1tsp Unrefined golden caster sugar
    • 1 Easy bake yeast sachet 7g
    • 15g Butter (unsalted) softened
    • 300ml Warm water
  2. 2

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for up to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  3. 3

Divide the dough into 20 small pieces and roll each piece into a ball, then place on a baking tray, ensuring you leave space in between. Cover with lightly greased cling film and leave in a warm place for 20-30 minutes, until the balls have almost doubled in size.

  4. 4

Preheat the oven to 230°C (210°C fan, gas mark 8).

  5. 5

Bake the dough balls for 10 minutes then reduce the temperature to 200°C (180°C, gas mark 6) for a further 10 minutes or until the dough balls are risen, golden brown and sound hollow when tapped underneath.

  6. 6

To make the garlic butter, chop the garlic then whip the softened butter and mix in the garlic.

    For this step you'll need:

    • 200g Butter (salted) softened
    • 2 Garlic clove(s)
