Gourmet Caramel Apples with Homemade Caramel from Cookies Cupcakes and Cardio

Needed:
• 12 medium sized apples
• Apple sticks (wooden sticks, 6" in length with a pointed end):

Homemade Caramel Ingredients:
• 2 cups brown sugar
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1-14oz can sweetened condensed milk
• 2/3 cup dark corn syrup
• 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
• 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 1 teaspoon molasses
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
Homemade Caramel Procedure:
1. In a medium sized sauce pan, heat ingredients on medium low until sugar has dissolved.
2. Turn temperature up to medium high, insert a candy thermometer and continue to stir while heating to 230F.
3. Once this temperature is reached, remove caramel from heat and pour into a tall heat proof container. Make sure that it is wide enough to be able to fit an apple into it.
4. Insert apple sticks into the apples where the stem is (remove stem).
5. Dunk candy apple into the caramel, bring apple back out of caramel and let excess drip off.
6. Place apples onto a parchment lined baking tray and allow to cool.

• Caramel covered apple
• Oreos cut into quarters
• Golden Oreos cut into quarters
• Oreo crunch chocolate bar
• Melted chocolate

Smarties Apple
• Caramel covered apple
• Smarties
• Melted chocolate

Peanut Butter Chocolate Apple
• Caramel covered apple
• Peanuts
• Reese's Pieces
• Mini Peanut Butter cups, halved

For each caramel apple, dip apple into melted chocolate and add toppings as desired.
